Results of external beam radiotherapy in 4839 patients

Dr. M Pisansky presented data at the recent ASTRO meeting on 4839 men with T1-T2 (early) Prostate cancer treated with external beam radiotherapy. Although there are many other such series, this is of interest as it is a large analysis from the modern era of conformal radiotherapy.

None of the patients received hormonal therapy.

The actuarial 8 year rate of freedom from clinical relapse (a less sensitive end-point than PSA rises - and a criticism of this analysis) was 81% overall (being 92% in low risk, 84% in intermediate risk and 71% in high risk disease patients).
