Hormone treatment following radical prostatectomy?
Question
I have had a radical prostatectomy followed by radiotherapy to the prostate bed due to a rising PSA
level. Now the PSA level is rising again (0.18 - 0.22 - 0.3). My consultant suspects micrometastasis. He says it is too early for hormone therapy. I am not so sure. I would like to be referred to a specialist centre.
Answer
Despite a a radical prostatectomy and radiotherapy your PSA is rising. If it doubles again then hormone treatment would be appropriate. There is a case for performing an MRI scan of the pelvis. Probably a bone scan would not detect disease at this PSA level
